Mesothelioma Cancer- Medications to Lessen the Destructive
Tumors
Early treatments of a Mesothelioma patient who have a cancer
have higher possibilities to survive, unlike in other patients who have
given a treatment when mesothelioma cancer is in the last stage.
They have only smaller possibilities to be cured and survive.
Mesothelioma medications have thus far been unable to limit the spread
of the deadly cancer.
The effectiveness of the treatment depends on where the
cancer is, how far it has spread, and the victim's age and general health.
Traditional mesothelioma treatments are often used in conjunction with
one another in effort to provide the most thorough and effective method
of treatment.
The treatment for the patient of mesothelioma cancer may
depend on the following:
- The location of tumor
- The size of tumor
- Types of tumor
- The stage of disease
- The age of the carrier of disease
- The health of the patient
These factors are important before giving any treatment
for the patients. There are some cases where patients die early in the
kind of the medication given to them.
Some medications includes:
Surgery - The pleurectomy or decortification
is the most common kind of surgery for mesothelioma cancer. In this process
the chest lining is being removed.
Chemotherapy - This is the treatment
using chemical compounds, which can kill microorganisms causing Mesothelioma
without harming the tissue of the patients.
Thorascopy - It is a procedure of directed
biopsies.
Thorascopy is also use to drain the fluid. These processes
are much effective in controlling the malignant (cancer) pleural effusion.
Extrapleural Pneumonectomy (EPP) - This
process is less known to treat the malignant (cancer) mesothelioma. Radiation
- It is a remedy by means of radiatioactive substance.
This process alone has a less percentage to cure the patients.
These processes are commonly used to prevent the growth of tumor.
Heated Intraoperative Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy
- This healing is for malignant peritoneal mesothelioma.
It was developed at the Washington Cancer Institute by
Paul sugarbaker. In this treatment they first remove the tumor.
Followed by a chemotherapy agent that is heated in temperature
greater than 40 degree Celsius in abdomen. The heat helps to penetrate
easily the drugs in infected tissue and kill the malignant (cancer) cell.
The medication for Malignant (cancer) Mesothelioma needed
many trials to be cured. This disease may be re-occurred after the treatment.
There are also possibilities that the disease cannot be treated only to
reduce the pain they feel.
In some cases, after the treatment their situation gets
worse. Aside from proper medications cancer patients also need a psychological
assistance as well as moral support to encourage them to fight this dreadful
disease.
Mesothelioma researchers are optimistic that new mesothelioma
treatment modalities will eventually prove to be successful, though they
have yet to yield results that are any better than traditional methods.
Since the cancer is often discovered late, many mesothelioma
treatments focus on improving the patients' quality of life.
