Mesothelioma Information - The Role of Asbestos in Mesothelioma Cancer

Mesothelioma cancer is not a popular cancer yet is one of the most deadly diseases. The average life span of a person who suffers from mesothelioma is ranging from twenty to thirty months after being diagnosed.

The underlying cause is the inhalation of the asbestos dust particles and fragments. Asbestos is a poisonous mineral that is commonly used for fireproofing.

This can be seen on buildings, construction sites, factories, mining and other asbestos-exposed environment.

Asbestos Causing Mesothelioma Cancer

Once a person inhaled the asbestos particles, its fragments will go directly to the lining of the lungs targeting the cells and tissues. Because asbestos is foreign to the body, the lungs will get irritated trying to release the fragments.

The antibodies will then go to the rescue yet is not enough to treat the disease. As a result, fluid will be secreted on the lungs giving the person more difficulties in breathing.

Once inhaled, the asbestos fibers can travel around the lungs and the other neighboring body systems like the heart and the abdomen but not to the entire body.

The main reason is not yet fully known however some experts say that it's because of the asbestos dust particles are very small. The said life-threatening disease also affects the pericardium or the heart.

The cancer cells that spread out on the lungs may attack the lining of the heart. This is called pericardial mesothelioma cancer.

Target of Mesothelioma Cancer

The other main target of the asbestos is the abdomen or peritoneum and if cases get worst, it will lead to peritoneal mesothelioma cancer.

In this case, the abdominal cavity is damaged because of the cancerous tissues and cells formed around them due to the spread of the asbestos particles.

Like any other cancer diseases, asbestos cancer also damages the body systems eating slowly the cells as well as the tissues. Blood poison will also occur and blood cloth may happen.

Several treatment options can be offered can be made such as chemotherapies, surgeries, and many more. However, it will not give you a hundred percent of assurance specially if the case is more serious.

One reason why mesothelioma cancer is very difficult to diagnose is because the adverse affects of exposure to asbestos do not usually show up for many years or sometimes can take 30 years to experience the symptoms.

You should seek professional medical attention if you have a particular concern about the causes and effects mesothelioma cancer.
