Pleural Mesothelioma Treatment and Diagnosis

Pleural mesothelioma is a type of cancer that affects the pleural sac that surrounds the lungs, and is caused by exposure to asbestos. It is the most common form of mesothelioma cancer with estimated 75% of all mesothelioma cases being of this form.

Pleural mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer that originates in the mesothelial cells lining the pleura, a membrane that covers the lungs and lines the chest cavity.

Biopsy. Is done after thorocoscopy through cutting tissue into small pieces to put under the microscope to seek if the cancer spread on the other parts of the body.

X-ray. It is done if the doctor seen the patient has shortness of breath, pain in the chest, swelling in the abdomen.

The chance of recovery of the patient depends upon on the size of the cancer, where the cancer is, how far the cancer spread, how the cancer respond to the treatment, and patients age.
