Pleural Mesothelioma Treatment and Diagnosis

Pleural mesothelioma is a type of cancer that affects the pleural sac that surrounds the lungs, and is caused by exposure to asbestos. It is the most common form of mesothelioma cancer with estimated 75% of all mesothelioma cases being of this form.

Pleural mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer that originates in the mesothelial cells lining the pleura, a membrane that covers the lungs and lines the chest cavity.

Pleural Mesothelioma Treatments

Mesothelioma treatments are needed to prevent this type of disease. Some people with pleural mesothelioma or malignant pleural mesothelioma are those whose work is mostly exposed to asbestos substance without any protective coat or suit.

Once pleural mesothelioma or other type of cancer are found on the body, more test will be done to find out if the cancer have been spread to the other parts of the body.

In this kind of disease the cancer is located to the outer lining of the chest or lungs.

Pleural Mesothelioma Diagnosis

For the sake of the patient or victim of pleural mesothelioma, it is necessary to have a proper diagnosis. It is recommended to go to a doctor with experience in dealing with mesothelioma cancer to have a reliable diagnosis.

Thorocoscopy. Makes small cut through chest wall and put a thin-lighted tube (thorocoscope in to the chest between two ribs that allow looking inside the chest to obtain sample tissue).

Biopsy. Is done after thorocoscopy through cutting tissue into small pieces to put under the microscope to seek if the cancer spread on the other parts of the body.

X-ray. It is done if the doctor seen the patient has shortness of breath, pain in the chest, swelling in the abdomen.

The chance of recovery of the patient depends upon on the size of the cancer, where the cancer is, how far the cancer spread, how the cancer respond to the treatment, and patients age.

Our life is only one. It is our responsibility and obligation to take good care of our body.

For instance, if you feel something wrong, do not waste time and immediately go to the hospital as much as possible and have a consultation to specialist regarding your health.

You must focus on the right maintenance of your health by using education to inform everyone about the important role of the risk factor in the development of the cancer, and the role of using natural products, anti-oxidants, herbs, minerals, and the vitamins for cancer prevention.

Pleural mesothelioma is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos, a fibrous mineral that is known to cause cancer.

Pleural mesothelioma is also different from peritoneal mesothelioma in that it has a longer latency period, with symptoms presenting in 30-40 years after exposure to asbestos versus 20-30 years for peritoneal mesothelioma.

Studies have shown the median survival of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma is 16 months. The only known way to prevent pleural mesothelioma is to avoid asbestos exposure.
